Thousands have splashed out on the AAO (Acer Aspire One) and many have had gripes with things such as hmmmm screen a bit small or hmmmm, a bit of a bugger to upgrade the memory etc or hmmmm, Those damn trackpad buttons or even hmmmm, excessive fan noise.
It looks like Acer is aiming to please even more people now by bringing a new unit to the market. Say hello to the AAO 103 10″ (Acer Aspire One 103 10″) and as you might have guessed it has a 10″ screen opposed to the 8.9″ currently offered. The track-pad buttons have been moved from the side to the bottom as on 99.99999999r% of all other track-pad devices and upgraders/modders have been given an easier life by Acer giving them nice little screw off covers that give access to memory, wifi and hdd. The excitable fan may or not be present in the new model. The AAO 103 version comes with a 1.6GHz Atom processor, 160GB hard drive, 1GB of RAM, multi-touch track-pad (with proper placed buttons), Bluetooth, WiFi, SDHC card reader, and optional 3G connectivity.
If they keep the pricing sensible on this unit, especially with the current climate of penny watchers then Acer should be onto a winner.

Acer’s Aspire One has an 8.9in screen and runs an Intel Atom CPU. It’s 24cm wide and 17cm deep, yet it’s reasonably comfortable to use, and best of all, its underbelly barely gets warm, so you can use it on your lap without feeling the heat.
The Aspire One is Acer’s first ‘netbook’ PC and it’s a computer for the Internet lifestyle. You can use it for browsing the Web, chatting online, streaming media, viewing photos and updating your social networking sites while you’re on the go. Continue reading »

Which Netbook would you like us to give a full review? Please select your answer in our poll.
Recently, there have been more and more Acer Aspire One articles appearing in various corners of the inter-web. One article posted on Laptop Magazine gave a detailed review and it looks like they are impressed.
- Keyboard big enough for comfortable touch typing. Bigger keyboard than Eee PC 900.
- Good low-light web cam. A web-cam that doesn’t work in low-light situations is quite often, useless for most people so it’s good to see this.
- Two SD cards slots. One adds memory to system storage in a seamless way. A great idea.
- ‘One of the thinnest and lightest we’ve tested.’ For Ultra-Mobile folks, this is important.
Acer Aspire One
The Acer Aspire One slams in at number 4, a machine that has potential to be top of the netbook world. Acer undoubtedly isn’t happy with fourth place, its come and buy me £199 UK price point and huge list of features shows Acer is a serious top spot contender.
Whats Hot:
It has a speedy 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU coupled with up to 1.5GB of RAM, an 8.9 inch WSVGA screen you can use even outdoors, a great keyboard, plus an optional HDSPA/3G module for true go anywhere Internet access. Storage starts at 8GB, thanks to a solid-state drive but can be upgraded to an 80GB unit if you need more storage. Brilliant!
Whats Not Hot:
This could easily have been the perfect 8.9 inch netbook and went straight in at No 1 slot, but… Acer went ahead and fitted a rubbish mouse system. Again, it’s one that has its selector buttons on either side of the track-pad instead of below it. It’s also worth a mention that the standard battery pack is a 2200mAh unit, which should give around 3 hours of life. The Acer Aspire One comes with only a 1year warranty; However, for the price of the machine we forgive you Acer.
When can i get it?
Any day now! Grab one quick as they should fly off the shelves.
