We were lucky enough to get our hands on the new Advent 4211 netbook today so we thought we would share the un-boxing of the unit so you can see for your self.
What the heck is an Advent 4211 netbook we hear you cry, well, to put it plainly it’s a MSI Wind that has been re-badged. We haven’t had the time to give it a full hand’s on review yet but expect one soon.
Last time we looked, the Advent 4211 was available all over the UK at PC World stores for reserve and collect or home delivery. Best of all it’s around £40 / $80 cheaper than the branded MSI Wind.

eee pc 904

The non stop rapid fire about the extention of the Asus Eee family continues, with the first appearance of the Eee Frankenstein Eee PC 903, 904 (pic), and 905. It’s not exactly clear what the differences between the three models are, but as we’ve heard, they’re all basically the Eee PC 901′s Atom based innards shoved into a Eee PC 1000′s case. This ultimately means you’re getting a larger keyboard and a nasty looking bezel around the 8.9 inch display reminiscent of the 700 series. Does the name Victor Frankenstein come to mind? As before, final specs and pricing aren’t available, but since these are destined to replace the 900 and 901, we’d expect pricing to remain in the $600 / £329 range. Who knows what news tomorrow will bring or indeed the next few hours will bring going by the rapid speed of the recent netbook announcements.

Is this de-ja-vu?

Remember when the eee 900 came out? then a week or so later the 901 / 1000 was announced? Well Asus have done it again.

Asustek Computer is planning to launch new Eee PC models, the 904 and 905, which have an 8.9-inch panel but use a similar chassis and keyboard as the company’s 10.2-inch models according to sources at channel vendors.

The Eee PC 904 and 905 will adopt Atom processors and the major difference between the two and the previous 901 model is that they feature a much needed bigger keyboard. Asus are still evaluating whether to make changes to the two models’ battery and storage capacity.

The company expects the Eee PC 904 ad 905 to come out at a similar price range as the current 900 and 901, and will eventually replace them. Asustek is also considering whether to drop prices for the 900 and 901 to completely clear its inventory or leave them in the market to defend against Acer’s Aspire One, noted the sources.

Wind NetbookMSI

What a day tomorrow is going to be!

MSI will be one of the major elements that adds to the excitement with the UK release of the much awaited MSI Wind netbook. Strategically or coincidentally both MSI and Asus unleash their much anticipated netbooks to the UK public.

Who’s going to come out on top? Asus with their netbook pedigree or MSI with one of the most talked about netbook’s since they announced it. We wait with baited breath but we have a hunch which netbook is going to come out on top. The poll’s have the MSI Wind as the current fav whereas the die-hard eee fan-boys won’t be budged.

Watch this space!

Wind NetbookIt’s June 27th, but instead of hearing a spanking new 10 inch MSI Wind netbook unboxing we’re now hearing that at least one pre order customer is being greeted with another delay. Reason? An “industry wide battery shortage.” Come on MSI, we guess you missed that giant fireball of a signal to look elsewhere for your inventory back in March? However, at least MSI are tossing in free overnight delivery with the new July 7th ship date. Hurrahh!!!

P.S. The MSI Wind MB retail page is currently blank. Time will tell if this is a deeper issue or just a temporary admin glitch.

Dear Customers:

We are writing today to apologize for the delays surrounding the shipment of your MSI Wind NB. We had hoped we would have begun shipping units by now, but have been unable to do so due to the industry wide battery shortage. We can assure MSI is doing everything possible to work around this issue and get your unit shipped.

As estimated, the first shipment will arrive in the week of July 7 and we will upgrade your shipping to overnight service without any extra cost to you.

We can only ask for your continued patience and apologize for any inconvenience this delay may have caused.

Please feel free to contact us at the numbers below if you have any questions or concerns.

eee pc 901We’ve had just about as much info on the Eee PC 901 and 1000 as we can handle, but we’ve been missing that most important piece of data until now: a US release date. That might be about to change as ASUS’s pre-sales department has apparently been telling people that the 901 and 1000 will ship on July 8th. Of course that’s not a firm commitment, and ship dates have been known to slip, but if you’ve been waiting to raid your piggy bank, well, let the countdown begin.
